Continuing our investigation into the magical practices of Edwardian artist and occultist Austin Osman Spare, we invite people to join us again for the second text of our reading group: The Book of Automatic Drawing. The book is a compilation of three texts in which Spare discusses and explains his mystical drawing technique that he used to channel the symbolic realm of his subconscious. This grimoire contains an abundance of examples of his sublime work, and is a comprehensive study of their unique methods of construction.
Attendees of this group will also be invited to experiment with Automatic Drawing themselves as part of a virtual collaborative workshop.

In these strange times we invite people to come together for an online reading group investigating the origins of 'Chaos Magic'. We will start with a text by Osman Austin Spare: The Book of Pleasure'. First published in 1913, this magical book is resplendent with full page symbolist illustrations that represent some of the artist’s most corrosive and beautiful draughtsmanship.
Considered his magnum opus, the text introduces for the first time the sigil techniques that would inspire the development of chaos magic in the 1970s as a form of postmodern occultism.
